Raptor Recovery CenterThe Omaha Public Schools and the Omaha Schools Foundation have many wonderfully successful Community Partnerships and Fontenelle Forest Nature Center is a stand-out. The H2O program is part of the H2O: Missouri River Science Education Initiative funded by the Nebraska Environmental Trust, the Omaha Schools Foundation and the William Leopard Charitable Lead Trust.

By the Numbers

  • In 2015-16, the H2Omaha program saw approximately 4071 students.  This current school year we are projected to serve 3889 6th grade students.
  • Last year’s Webology classes saw roughly 4045 students. This year we are looking at hosting 3724 4th grade students.
  • The On the Go programs conduct programming for 457-3rd graders and 503-5th graders. Each of those student groups has received 3 visits from a naturalist.

The transportation for students involved in the H2Omaha program is paid for through OPS Curriculum and Learning.

Fontenelle Forest Directors have expressed an appreciation for the support of Omaha Public Schools and the Omaha Schools Foundation in providing all of these students the opportunity to learn firsthand about the natural world and the wonderful world of science! They are into our 3rd week with their new H2Omaha curriculum and have heard nothing but rave reviews from teachers and students so far about the new format.

One 6th grade teacher’s first comments were, “This is EXACTLY what 6th graders should be doing!” as the students scooped up water from the pond to test the temperature and pH while discussing what types of things would be able to live in the wetland ecosystem. We are excited to be providing hands on learning in the field!

If you would like to donate to the Omaha Schools Foundation in support of this program, you can do so through our secure payment gateway.
